Kaylan Herbst joined the Steinhauser’s team as our Lifestyle Product Specialist with Purina Mills/Land O’ Lakes. As a Purina Certified Expert Dealer, Steinhauser’s is dedicated to providing our customers with hands-on product support and top-notch customer service. We are pleased to provide Kaylan’s expertise as a horse owner and equestrian along with her in-depth knowledge of Purina Equine, Pet and Livestock feed products to assist you with your feed management programs.
To say Kaylan has had a life-long interest in horses is an understatement; her experience as a horsewoman started practically at birth. The Herbst family owns a 300-acre boarding, breeding and training farm for Arabian and half Arabian horses just an hour south of Purina’s St. Louis Test Farms in Farmington, Missouri. “We grow our own alfalfa/orchard grass hay and row crop soybeans and corn,” Kaylan explains. “I grew up in an environment which allowed me to be very well rounded in my riding skills and ride many different breeds of horses.” Kaylan is well-versed in riding all types of horses such as thoroughbreds, trahkeners, warmbloods and quarter horses. She also has a diverse background in riding disciplines such as eventing, hunter/jumpers, dressage, reining, western pleasure, saddle seat, driving, and cowboy mounted shooting.
Kaylan is very active in several equestrian and equine organizations including the Arabian Horse Association, United States Equestrian Federation, Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, National Reining Horse Association, United States Eventing and Hunter Jumper Association as well as the U. S. Dressage Federation.
Her activism in equestrian and Ag organizations have also been lifelong: “I grew up in 4H and held every office in my horse project club and, of course, (I) belonged to FFA in High School— I was FFA Parliamentarian my senior year.” Holding several leadership roles in both high school and college Ag Clubs, Kaylan also found time to compete in the show arena. While attending the University of Tennessee at Martin, she competed on the UT-Martin Equestrian Hunter Seat Equitation Team under Head Coach and past NCEA President Megan Cunningham.
As an equestrian, Kaylan is a three-time Arabian Youth and Sport Horse Reserve National Champion and has also accumulated many other awards and honors for her expert riding skills.
Naturally, Kaylan’s horse farm background and experience as a champion equestrian have allowed her to transition into a career with PMI Animal Nutrition as a Lifestyle Product Specialist serving the needs of Steinhauser’s horse farm and ranch customers. Kaylan’s family has long been involved with Purina products— her great-grandfather raised some of the first Purina caged chickens and her family’s horse and farming business continue to use Purina feed products today. As our LPS, Kaylan works with area horse and livestock owners as well as equestrian and ag club leaders to educate and inform about Purina Animal Nutrition products. Her extensive knowledge of feed products is a big asset in providing product assistance to Steinhauser’s customers.
