Directions

Situation 1) Nursing Foals up to 120 Days of Age

  • If the foal is drinking from the mare, provide FOALS FIRST® – Starter & Creep free choice from 7 days of age, until the foal is 120 days old
  • Typically nursing foals will consume about 1 pound of FOALS FIRST® – Starter & Creep per 100 lbs. of body weight daily
  • The amount of Starter & Creep consumed will depend on the amount of milk produced by the nursing mare. Foals nursing mares who are not milking well, will eat more Starter & Creep per day
  • At 120 days of age the foal should be transitioned to a Progressive Nutrition weanling diet

Situation 2) Foals Orphaned/Rejected before 14 days of age

  • Step One: Foals orphaned before 14 days of age should be provided FOALS FIRST®– Milk Replacer (liquid) at recommended amounts, up to 60 days of age (Refer to the feeding directions for FOALS FIRST® – Milk Replacer ‘Powder’, for the amounts to feed per day)
  • Step Two: After the foal is 7 days old, provide FOALS FIRST® – Starter & Creep free choice in addition to the FOALS FIRST® – Milk Replacer (liquid). Provide it until the foal is 120 days old
  • At 120 days of age the foal should be transitioned to a Progressive Nutrition weanling diet

Situation 3) Foals Orphaned/Rejected after the foal is 14 days of age

  • Foals orphaned between 14 and 60 days of age should first be fed FOALS FIRST® – Starter & Creep ‘Pellet’ free choice until 120 days of age.
  • At 120 days of age the foal should be transitioned to a Progressive Nutrition weanling diet
